Habit #5 – Daily Body Weight Exercise

“Before” Starting out with body weight exercises daily

In this post I’ll talk a bit about my current background with exercise and then share my results after following the program for 30 days. In my post about eating right I discussed using home work out programs such as P90X or Insanity.

Those are basically the types of things I’ve been doing on and off for the last 4-5 years. As of the last 2 years I really have not done much in terms of consistent exercise and just lost a lot of motivation.

Within the 30 days of discipline program you are asked to do a series of body weight exercise daily:

  • 100 push-ups
  • 100 sit-ups
  • 100 squats

So at the time of writing this post it is day 2 of my journey and yesterday I basically used my normal “lazy” time to get my work out in. I’ve been watching the Walking Dead and Once Upon a Time with Brenda so I thought this would be a great opportunity to hang out with her while also getting these exercises in. I basically did 5 sets of 20 reps for both squats and sit ups and then with push-ups I did mostly 10 reps and a couple 20 rep intervals.

I suspect by November 20th I’ll be able to do 100 push-ups without any breaks, that is my goal. I know from doing Insanity in the past I used to be able to crank out push-ups no problem but as I discussed in my other post I’ve gained weight (I’m currently 211lbs).

I think the biggest thing I can do during this part of the program is stay consistent, that is where I’ve struggled in the past when doing 60 or 90 day programs. I like the idea of doing these 3 exercises because I can do them while doing other things such as letting dinner cook or having a TV show on. I won’t let any excuses get in the way, even if I need to spread out my work out over each day there is no reason I can’t do this every day.
